Summer School
Finally the calendar and the temperature are matching -- it is officially summer!
Twenty-one students arrived in early June to begin the rigors and fun of Oakdale's seven-week summer school session. Students come from as close as a couple counties away and as far away as the United Kingdom. These twenty-one students represent a beautiful diversity in culture, ethnicity, and economics. Each benefits from the differences and learns from the experiences of others.
Please pray for these students as they study, laugh, pray and learn together.
Graduation
On May 9, the Oakdale Christian Academy class of 2009 graduated! Family, friends, Oakdale board members, staff and supporters watched with pride as seven students entered the ranks of Oakdale alumni.
Graduates of the class of 2009 have plans for the fall that include, Spring Arbor University, University of Toledo, Pennsylvania State, and Alice Lloyd College. Please pray for our graduates, that they will be able to take with them all that they have learned here at Oakdale, enabling them to fully lead lives characterized by lifelong learning, service to others and love for God.
Dr. Randall Bergen, academic dean and vice president for academic affairs for Greenville College, delivered the commencement address for this year's graduation. He encouraged graduates to Celebrate! His challenge was to celebrate the things that truly deserve celebrating and to resist the temptation to celebrate the temporal. Dr. Bergen and his wife, Vondria, are longtime supporters of Oakdale.
Prayer
As you are in prayer for the students and staff at Oakdale, please keep this special prayer request in mind. One of our seniors was diagnosed in the spring with an aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. Doctors have indicated her cancer to be stage four. She has completed chemotherapy and will be traveling to Texas for surgery in early July if her body is strong enough to withstand the operation. Please pray for a miracle in her life and for the family, students and staff that are walking with her through these difficult days.
Thank You
After a violent rain storm in early May, large sections of the girls' dorm ceiling collapsed due to leaking from the roof. We are so very thankful to report that the dorm is now back in working condition! Thanks to the generous support of many and the hard work of several work teams, the dorm is looking great and is the comfortable home to summer school students. Work completed on the building includes, a new roof, new ceilings, updated carpet and fresh paint. Work will continue on the exterior of the building which needs some updates and improvements. If you are interested in supporting this continuing project, please contact the school office or give on-line at www.oakdalechristian.org.
