Oakleaf
The
gift of time, a labor of love
From electricians to painters to those who installed ceramic tile and finished the drywall, Oakdale was blessed with volunteers whose work frequently exceeded the quality of work that could have been contracted out. The cost savings of these volunteer efforts totals more than $60,000.
The volunteer electrical
installation work of Steve Whitman of Davison, Michigan, David Elkow
of Corbin, Kentucky, and those they brought at various times to help,
brought an enormous saving to the cost of the building. Whitman and
Elkow each took 5+weeks off work to travel to Oakdale at various times
throughout the project.
A painting crew assembed by Roger
Pratt of Holly, Michigan, completed, during one week in April, much of
the painting in the building, saving significant cost. Bill Ackerman
of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, also painted at various times during the
project.
Ellis Odermann of McPherson, Kansas,
spent two weeks in April working on drywall finishing in the
classrooms and corridors.
Jim Thompson and Tim Kammer from
Linden, Michigan, installed ceramic tile in the bathrooms during
several days in June. The spirit in which each of these friends worked
was a blessing to Oakdale staff and students. They receive our deepest
thanks for their help.
